Welcome to Unit 3: One Step Equations

In Unit 3, we're going to bring it up a notch, and test how you can solve one step equations. Feel free to try out any problems, and check your answers in the new answer key!

Unit 3 One Step Equations

1.

12 pineapples are planted into the soil. 5 of them are ripe and x others are not ready yet. 

• Write an equation modeling this problem.

•How many pineapples are not ready yet?

2.

A pod of dolphins swims near the coast of Maui. There are 20 of them in total. In the pod, there are d male dolphins and 7 female ones.

• Write an equation modeling this problem.

• How many male dolphins are there now?

3. (Part 1)

A basket of coconuts is placed in a nearby taro field. There are c coconuts total. They are arranged in 5 rows of 7. How many coconuts are there total?

4.

A local decides to sail 10 miles out to see. He does not remember how many miles he has completed (m), but his map says there are 2 miles left. How many miles or m has he already sailed?

5.

A green sea turtle has just laid her eggs on the shore. She has a total of 108 eggs. A third of her eggs are bigger than the others. The other 72 are a normal size. Give two different equations that could model this problem. Use the variable t.

6. (Bonus Question, Part 2)

The box of coconuts from problem 3 now has 2 more rows of 7 added. They are placed in a truck with other coconuts. They now have 98 coconuts in total. Calculate how many coconuts were in the truck before the new ones arrived. Use c for your variable.
