Welcome to Unit 1: Data Analysis

Welcome to Unit 1! In this unit we will begin exploring graphs, plot diagrams and more. Answer these 6 example problems as best as you can and feel free to send us your answer down below.

Unit 1 Data Analysis

Use the bar graph above to solve the questions

1.

Based on the graph, describe how the honu population has changed from 1970 to 2020. Is the growth linear, exponential, or irregular? Explain your reasoning using evidence from the bars.

2.

Estimate the population in 1970 and 2020. Calculate the percent increase in the honu population over the 50‑year period.

3.

For each decade (1970→1980, 1980→1990, etc.), estimate the population change. Which decade saw the largest increase? Which saw the smallest?

4. If conservation efforts had not been implemented and the population stayed at its 1970 level, how many turtles would Hawaiʻi be missing today?

5. Using the pattern in the graph, predict the Honolulu population in 2030.

6. (Bonus Question)

Create a ratio comparing the 1970 population to the 2020 population. Simplify the ratio if possible.
